Naturopathic Medicine is based on 6 basic principles:
-the healing power of nature (vis medicatrix naturae): recognizing and utilizing the individual's inherent ability to heal oneself--that wisdom found in the body and soul of the individual. -identify and treat the causes (toll causam): focusing on the individual as a whole and treating the underlying causes of imbalance, rather than focusing simply on symptoms. -first do no harm (premium non nocere): by causing no harm, referring when appropriate and by using the least force necessary to diagnose and treat imbalance and support optimal health; and always to respect the individual's own healing process. -doctor as teacher (docere): supporting self-responsibility of each individual in their process and for their health. -treat the whole person: each person is an individual with their own physical, mental, emotional, spiritual experiences, as well as their own unique set of environmental, social and other factors--and, we approach each individual as their own whole being. -prevention: focus on overall wellness and disease prevention. |
